fedora + vmware = winxp

Been running fedora on my workstation for a couple of weeks now, so I figured, why not take the next step in installing VMware to host winxp altogether!

So far? So good! I'm totally psyched!

VMWare is totally amazing to see in action, I can't remember how many eyes popped out when I had my full linux desktop running while installing win98 in a vmware session. And of course, suspending and resuming the install too.

It is however, rather pricey ... probably the most expensive thing on my PC after the machine itself! In fact, for the price, one could almost get a cheap PC...

FWIW, academic licenses for VMware Workstation run $120-$130, which isn't too bad.

Fedora users should make sure that they have the gcc32 package installed and run 'export CC=gcc32' before running the config script.

I have a few vmware images, and with this, I don't need to have separate PCs for development work, furthermore, I can transfer the images between my notebook and PC (that keeps me coding!)
